Below is a description of Holy Innocents many ministries and activities that involve the laity. The online calendar shows what events and activities have been scheduled to take place at Holy Innocents.
Children's Ministries
Holy Innocents has a growing number of small children, and we have the Godly Play program for children ages three to ten. If you are interested in being a part of this ministry, please let the vicar know.
Acolytes
Both adults and young people serve as acolytes at Holy Innocents. If you are interested, please contact the vicar, or speak with one of the acolytes.
Adult Education
Adult education offerings are held seasonally on Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m. The offerings can be as general as a three-week study of prayer or as specific as a look at the life of a particular saint. All are welcome to attend.
Altar Guild
Members of the altar guild assist the clergy in preparing the altar for each worship service. The altar guild is new at Holy Innocents, and new members are always welcome. Ongoing training is provided for all who participate in the altar guild.
Book Club
A book group—open to any who are interested—meets at area restaurants approximately once a month. Contact Elizabeth at lizkrueger@rcn.com or Alfred at escoffier8@comcast.net for more information. If you are purchasing through Amazon, visit our donation page.
Communications Committee
We are improving communication among members of our community. Newsletters and e-mail are increasingly used as communication tools. If you are interested in assisting with this, please contact the church office.
Part of our communication in the community involves special projects, like the Holy Innocents processional banner. The banner contains childhood photographs of our members, representing our inclusion of all God's children. View a sample of the project.
Confirmation Classes
Confirmation classes are offered periodically, as there is interest in the congregation. Classes are individualized depending upon the background of the person seeking membership. If you are interested in becoming a member of Holy Innocents and are not an Episcopalian, please let the clergy know so that arrangements can be made that fit your needs and schedule.
Education for Ministry (EFM)
EFM is a four-year course of study in scripture and theology. If you are interested but need financial help, please talk to Rosa Lee. If you have been attending 'via media' and would like to continue the conversation, EFM is an excellent way to do that.
Flower Guild
Members of the flower guild provide flowers for services each Sunday. Each member provides flowers approximately once every other month. The members of the flower guild work cooperatively to prepare the flowers for the church at Easter and Christmas.
Fundraising Social Events
Various parties and events are held during the year. All are welcome to participate, both by planning and by attending events that are of interest. Other ideas for events that members would enjoy are always welcome.
Garden
The garden at Holy Innocents is small, but a very inviting place to spend time. You are welcome to visit the garden simply to sit and reflect or to participate by becoming one of our gardeners.
Hospitality
Members of the parish offer hospitality each Sunday for coffee hour. There is coffee hour following each service. A sign-up sheet is located on the bulletin board downstairs.
Nursing Home Visits
Members of Holy Innocents visit a local nursing home each month, providing a worship service complete with music and the Eucharist. If you would like to join the nursing home group, please contact Sister Jean, at The Community of Saint Francis.
Outreach
Traditionally, outreach at Holy Innocents has included supporting local charities by providing food, socks or other needed items for homeless or otherwise needy people. We are currently in the process of growing our ministries of outreach and always welcome ideas about how we can best be the Body of Christ in our neighborhood.
Pastoral Care Team
The Pastoral Care Team maintains regular personal contact with the members of the congregation, providing pastoral care to those who desire it. The Pastoral Care Team also functions as a prayer circle, praying each week for those for whom prayer has been requested.
Schola Cantorum
The choir provides music for Sunday worship and special services throughout the year. If you are interested in singing with the Schola Cantorum, please speak with Rev. Rosa Lee Harden.
Stewardship
Understanding how we share our resources with the Church and with the world is an ongoing tack, not only for individuals, but for the Church. We want our conversations about stewardship to center not around a pledge form, but around how we live our lives.
